In my last post I talked about tidying up vs. straightening up and how to store clothing properly -- according to Marie Kondo. It was difficult to explain how to store folded clothes standing up -- the clothes standing up, not me -- so I took a few snaps to illustrate.

unmentionables -- sorry! But it is a good illustration of what I am talking about |

t-shirts and a polka dot blouse - I have added more to this drawer today |
It takes a bit of fiddling to figure out how to fold them to get them to fit in the drawer without essentially wadding them up into a little ball but it seems each piece of clothing has a way it wants to go -- a natural fold. I have tried with dress pants that are slipperier fabric and I am not sure about that so I am thinking of just hanging those with the appropriate blouses as a set. I have started on pajamas and have folded the two pieces together so they are stored as a unit.
So far so good. I have put more things in the donation bag and am starting on a third bag. As I fish through the closet I am realizing that I don't wear hardly anything that is in there and it is so smashed that I can't really see anything I have -- whether I wear it or not. Hopefully by folding the clothes I will be able to see them more readily and have more hanging space. Once I sift through the hanging clothes, I hope to have more hanging space.
It will be time to go shopping. Hahahah!

And I trust you will 'fess up when you go shopping? ;)
Has the letter arrived yet?
Oh yes, I will tell what I do. What I am thinking is buying a few things to round out a couple of outfits and be done. I know the most efficient way to buy clothes is to buy pieces that can mix and match but that it completely opposite to how I have always thought of clothes -- I think of them in outfits and I can't get passed it so, instead of trying to change my ways at this late stage, I am just going to go with it. I won't be so frustrated and I won't have things that just don't go with anything and possibly I will get out of the grey/black/white and sometimes beige rut I am in. No, the letter hasn't arrived yet but we had a mail holiday Monday so everything gets put behind a day or so -- I expect it maybe today.
I don't think I have enough clothes to 'pack em in' so they don't all flop over.I like the way it looks though!
Jane x
Jane, the drawers in that dresser are not very deep front to back. A plastic shoe box fits exactly to hold the unmentionables. So, those jeans you see are all I have and they sort of hold each other up. So far, though, it seems like a better use of the space rather than hanging -- takes up less space.
It all looks "artfully arranged." Ordered drawers have to be very satisfying and less frustrating for sure. I literally find myself digging through my sock drawer, and more often than naught, never come away with two that match. I'll have to see if I can get her book through inter-library loan--would be timely for spring cleaning.
Bonnie -- what you can't see is the disaster behind this lovely display -- I pulled everything out of the drawers and arranged what needed to go back and am still looking at what was left --- sort of a mind willing/flesh weak sort of situation!
