The Time Has Come

My new journal arrived today — thank you Amazon for delivering on Sunday.

Tomorrow I begin my new challenge — I have been thinking about this for days now and I am hoping it will make me more confident and more aware of what is right for me.  I have consciously been trying to avoid going to the internet for validation for things.  That sounds ridiculous but it feels ridiculous too.

Tomorrow is my birthday— I think that is a good day to have a new start.

I think writing things down really helps. My current journal has the slightly pompous title of "Living my best like" because that's what I want to do. Mine is actually a Word document as I use my laptop for other things several times a day and I can write a few words whenever I want. And yes, this one started on my birthday! So make sure your birthday is the start of living your best life too!

Have a brilliant birthday!

Hi, Mary! I agree, I think you can focus better when you write things down — my mind seems to just wander all over when I try to “think things through”.

Hi Granny! I have a cousin who always kept diaries and I tried but never could stick to it — you know, those days that there was nothing to say! But, I hope this journal is more than just a daily diary — I hope it is a springboard for more positive behavior (like getting all the cookies out of the house!). Thank you for the birthday wishes!

Yes, some of my earliest journal entries consist of things like "Melissa and me played today." So informative!

I still keep diaries and journals. Generally they're just lists of daily activities, meals, stuff like that. But they can also be great for doing a little "venting" if something is bugging me or I'm trying to figure things out. Since my fingers are so stiff from arthritis these days, all my journals are now on the computer. I started with just Word documents, but now I use the Day One journal app for the Mac. It's faster than pen and paper and has the benefit of being searchable. Definitely not as much fun as actually writing it all down in a book, though.

Oh, I hadn’t heard of that app — I need to look at it because I have an awful lot of planners and calendars and notebooks floating around and I only have so much real estate and I hate to throw them away. Yes, I have a diary from childhood that is funny - clearly I had nothing to talk about! I don’t know, my writing is getting so bad with my hands that doing it on the computer seems good. I am writing a memoir, much like Michael did, and I would love to do it by hand but the reality is that after about 3 lines my writing is no longer legible so it is on the computer!

New Decor — So Overwhelming!
