I Am Done —-

Am I the only person done with 2020?  For me it just keeps getting better and better—not!

See this pattern?  I have used this pattern for various and sundry costumes since 1985 or so.  I made 16 angel costumes for a Christmas play when my daughter was in kindergarten.  I have used it for a pilgrim, a witch and for a historical character and, most recently, I have turned my two eldest granddaughters into nuns for All Saints Day.  Each and every time I have used it I have put the sleeves in wrong and had to rip them out.  This pattern has three pieces.  How difficult can that be?  Well, with me at the sewing machine apparently pretty difficult.  So, now it is time for me to transform my youngest granddaughter into another nunnish saint — St. Theresa.  I really didn’t want to do it.  I don’t like to sew.  I really don’t but it is three pieces, how difficult and time consuming can it be?  Well, let me tell you.

I had been putting off doing this little project — so today I knew my free time was running out so I decided I best get to it.  So, I pinned it, cut it and set about sewing the sleeves in incorrectly.  I ripped them out — twice.  I finally got the thing put together but not before I sewed through my finger.  On my poor broken/now healed hand.

My sewing days are over.  This pattern has been used for the last time, pieces are missing, it is in tatters and I just don’t ever want to make this again. I believe my sewing will be reduced to placemats and pot holders and the majority of it will involve a tapestry needle and fabric in a hoop.  I don’t like the mess, I don’t like pins and little pieces of fabric all over the floor, I don’t like big gobs of thread all over the place and I most especially don’t like sewing through my finger — this isn’t the first time.

I am just blaming it on 2020 — not that I am a lousy seamstress or impatient or genuinely disinterested — it is just 2020.

I get so frustrated when I have to undo anything. I don't like following directions, I guess! I do like looking at new patterns, though, so my sewing days aren't over yet. I have a pair of pajama pants to sew. Maybe I'll do that today. How is your wrist? Lots better?

I've never learned to sew properly and didn't enjoy it even when I took lessons. I could sew things just as long as the teacher stood over me. I tried, honestly, but the talent for sewing just isn't in me. So I understand how you can be absolutely DONE. I'm sure you have other talents you can enjoy more.
