The Magdalen Girls by V. S. Alexander

 Horrific book.  I wish I could say it was pure fiction but I know, for a fact, it isnt.

I couldn’t put it down.  Recommend?  Uh, yes with reservation.

I used to read books that dealt with difficult subjects and vividly sad circumstances. Now, I just read light-and-easy books, like the Ladies No. 1 Detective Agency series!

I haven't read that book, only heard about it. I think I would find it too upsetting, knowing it was based on true happenings. Somewhat similar is the movie Philomena. Have you seen it? She was one of the Magdala girls I'm pretty sure.

Hi, Holly, yes I don’t go for the heavy stuff anymore either. I am just trying to read off my own shelves and not buy any new books for awhile. This is the first I grabbed. I have had it for a very long time and kept putting it back. But I decided to tackle it. It was gripping for sure but left me very depressed. It is going into my donate pile because I won’t revisit it.

Hi, GM! I have seen Philomena but I didn’t realize she was one of these very unfortunate young women. I will have to watch it again.
